Ticking Noise

Hey guys,my name is ruben and this is my 1st post on trdforums

i have a 1998 corolla, and about a week ago it started making a ticking noise when accelerating. but only about the 2-3k rpm range. if i let go of the gas pedal, or accelerate pass 3k rpm it goes away. ive checked for anything lose in the engine bay, but nothing. its a 5-speed manual trans. it makes the noise in 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd. ive never heard it in 4th. what do you guys think it is?
thanks in advance.

1... check oil level, fill it to max (or a lil bit over... not much though)
2... use heavier oil...

My car is an automatic. It only does it when you surge the accelerator. Or when you have crusie control set at at between 55-80mph. Its right around the tne 2500-3500RPM range. its in the engine of my car. Im assuming something in the head. Noone can figure it out.

i know what that is because my car is doing the same thing except i havent fixed it on mine yet. its the serpentine pull tensioner there was a tsb from Toyota to change it on our corollas. it will get worse as times goes on but its just the shock that keeps tension on the belt that is going. its like 150 at Toyota or get it from another place

^^It very well could be the belt tensioner. Other possibilities could be the valve seats and transmission.

See someone told me it needed valve lash adjustment. i looked into that on aldatapro and it said with our cars having vvt-i its all self adjusting and none of that was serviceable. I did see the tsb on the serp belt tensioner going bad. back then i didnt have money to replace it but now maybe I should. Thanks for reminding me

yah thats it but im kinda skeptical about using anything other than a toyota part on this one which is the reason i havent done it yet. they fixed the part so what says the aftermarket ones wont do the same thing

If you're mechanically inclined, it's not hard. About the same difficulty as replacing a pulley. If it's your first time, you might have a hard time.

i did a little research using the search button
found out it could well be serp belt, tensioner, valves, lifters and a couple of other things. im thinking of taking it to toyota to get it checked out to find out exactly whats wrong. and then from there determine if its worth it for me to fix it or a mechanic. btw does anyonne know roughly how much toyota charges per hour. thanks
